Fire Officials Deliver Devastating News for America: Southern California Wildfire…

CAMARILLO, Calif.—In just under two days, a wildfire in Southern California has destroyed 132 buildings, primarily homes, officials said Thursday, though strong winds fueling the blaze are expected to subside soon.

The fire broke out Wednesday morning in Ventura County and has since spread to roughly 32 square miles, with only 5 percent of it contained so far. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff reported that ten people have been injured, mainly from smoke inhalation or other minor injuries.

Officials added that 88 additional structures were damaged, though they did not clarify if the damage was from flames, water, or smoke.

As of Thursday, around 10,000 residents remained under evacuation orders while the Mountain Fire continued to endanger approximately 3,500 structures in suburban neighborhoods, ranches, and farmland near Camarillo in Ventura County.

Fire crews, supported by water-dropping helicopters, were working in challenging, hilly terrain, focusing their efforts on protecting hillside homes on the northeast side of the fire near Santa Paula, a city with over 30,000 residents.
