Like every Sunday, I went through my usual shopping routine—fresh vegetables, neatly packed fruit, everything checked off the list. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
The next morning, while making coffee, I reached for a bag of strawberries. I tore open the wrapping, ready to rinse them—when something unusual caught my eye.
Nestled among the glossy red berries was a long, thin object that didn’t belong there.
At first, I assumed it was just a stray string, maybe some packing material that had slipped through unnoticed. But then I froze.
It was moving.
Ever so slightly, just enough to make my pulse quicken. Leaning closer, I saw faint, repeated motions—like it was trying to push against the plastic.
With a mix of dread and disbelief, I finally realized what it was.
A small snake.
Harmless, yes—but utterly shocking. You don’t expect anything other than fruit in a sealed package, yet here it was, alive and hidden among the strawberries.
I immediately contacted the supermarket. They pulled the remaining batch from shelves and began tracing the supply chain.
The fright was real, but so was the lesson: appearances can be deceiving. The strawberries looked flawless—bright, clean, perfect. Yet tucked between them was an “uninvited guest.”
What started as a simple craving turned into a story I’ll never forget.
So next time you open a fruit package, take a moment to look closely… you never know what surprise might be waiting inside.
