Why Should You Put Your Suitcase in the Bathroom Immediately After Checking Into a Hotel Room?

Putting your suitcase in the bathroom after checking into a hotel has a special significance, helping you avoid potential issues later on.

Booking a hotel room for an overnight stay during business trips or vacations is common and familiar to many. After completing the check-in process, people often push their suitcase into the room and want to jump into bed right away after a long and exhausting journey. However, before lying down, there are a few small steps you should take to ensure your safety.

Why Should You Put Your Suitcase in the Bathroom Immediately After Checking Into a Hotel Room

After opening the hotel room door, instead of pushing your suitcase into the center of the room and lying down, you should place it in the bathroom.

This tactic helps you avoid bedbug attacks. Bedbugs tend to hide in places like mattresses, pillows, sofas, or anything with fabric upholstery. Bathrooms are not ideal living environments for bedbugs and are also cleaned regularly.

Thus, it’s a good idea to place your suitcase in the bathroom first, then thoroughly inspect the bed and other areas of the room. Take a close look at the sheets, pillows, and sofa to check for unusual signs like blood stains, eggs, or bedbug droppings. Inspecting every nook and cranny, including the bed frame and headboard, is essential.

If you place your suitcase on the bed as soon as you enter the room, bedbugs may crawl into your belongings, causing further issues. You might even bring them home unknowingly. Only after ruling out the possibility of insects should you bring your suitcase into the room.

When you return home, place your luggage in a separate corner, clean it, and wash your clothes before putting them back in the closet with other items to prevent the possibility of bringing bedbugs or other harmful insects home.

Check the Safety of the Room

In addition to checking for insects in the room, you should also check the safety of the space to ensure there are no hidden surveillance devices. This has become a concern for many people nowadays. Hotels almost never install hidden cameras in rooms. However, it is not impossible that someone might rent a room and install illegal recording devices. Therefore, guests should inspect the room thoroughly before settling in.

Carefully observe the corners of the room, surrounding items, and anything facing the bed, such as the TV, mirror, flower vase, plants, or artwork. Also, check the bathroom and toilet areas. These are common spots where hidden cameras could be placed.

You should also check whether the room’s lock is functioning properly. Windows and balcony doors should be securely locked, especially in rooms with children, to prevent accidents. Additionally, ensure that all electrical appliances in the room are working correctly.

If you encounter any issues in the room, contact the hotel’s reception desk for assistance.
