Caleb’s smartwatch added another timeline. At 5:39 p.m., his heart rate remained normal. It rose sharply at 5:46, several minutes before he gave the toast and nearly ten minutes before the dramatic collapse. He had already begun reacting but continued performing until everyone assembled around the table.

The device also stored a deleted voice memo recovered from temporary memory.

“If I feel anything beyond dizziness, call the ambulance immediately,” Caleb said in the recording. “Mother, do not let Paige add another tablet because one is enough.”

Lorraine answered, “Then make certain Morgan touches the mug after we prepare it.”

Caleb had recorded the rehearsal accidentally after activating voice notes through his watch. The memo ended when Paige reminded him to plant the bottle inside my handbag.

Evelyn looked toward Detective Cole.

“My client requested preservation before anyone knew this recording existed. That conduct is inconsistent with someone who expected the evidence to implicate her.”

Cole agreed that the investigation had changed, but she needed corroboration before arresting the family members still gathered at my home.

The pharmacy footage arrived two hours later. Paige wore a baseball cap and medical mask, yet her vehicle plate remained visible when she left. She presented the image of my license and purchased the medication with cash.

A neighbor’s doorbell camera supplied the final external evidence. At 4:58 p.m., Caleb and Paige stood beside her car discussing whether the dose would appear in toxicology testing.

“It needs to look dangerous enough for attempted murder but not dangerous enough to keep me hospitalized,” Caleb said.

Paige responded, “Once Morgan is charged, the board signs your resolution and the house becomes leverage.”

The recording captured Lorraine joining them with the amber bottle.

Part Three: The Hospital Visit They Expected Me to Make

Police arrested Paige at the house and seized Lorraine’s phone, but Caleb remained hospitalized under observation. He asked repeatedly for me, insisting that he remembered nothing after the toast and needed his wife.

Detective Cole believed he hoped to persuade me into making an emotional statement that could be used against me. With investigators monitoring from an adjacent room, I agreed to visit.

Caleb lay beneath white blankets, appearing fragile enough to awaken the compassion he had exploited throughout our marriage.

“Morgan, thank God you are safe,” he said. “Mother told me the police accused you before understanding what happened.”

“Do you remember asking Paige not to add another tablet?”

His face remained still, but the monitor showed his heart rate climbing.

“I do not know what you mean because the medication has damaged my memory.”

“Your watch remembered for you.”

Caleb looked toward the door and understood that we were not alone.

“Morgan, please listen before deciding that one frightened conversation defines everything. Mother convinced me that you intended to divorce me, remove my name from the deed, and expose the vendor transfers.”

“Those transfers belonged to Northline, while the house was purchased before our marriage.”

“The deed carries my name, and the company grew while we were married. I deserved protection.”

The word deserved stripped away his remaining disguise. He believed proximity to my work created ownership and that refusing him transformed theft into self-defense.

“You swallowed medication, planted evidence, and watched your mother strike me because you wanted a fraudulent board vote.”

Caleb began crying.

“I thought the dose would create mild symptoms. Paige miscalculated, and Mother panicked when I collapsed.”

“Lorraine did not panic because she followed the script. She accused me before checking whether you could breathe.”

He reached toward my hand.

“If you tell police this was a family misunderstanding, I will surrender the vendor company and sign whatever divorce settlement you want.”

“You cannot bargain with assets you stole or offer me freedom from a crime you committed.”

Detective Cole entered with another investigator and informed Caleb that his statement had been recorded under the monitoring agreement explained before my visit. He protested that medication impaired his capacity, but his physician confirmed that he remained oriented and competent.

Investigators arrested him after discharge. Searches uncovered draft affidavits accusing me of domestic violence, fabricated emails suggesting I researched heart medication, and a corporate resolution prepared before Thanksgiving.

Paige cooperated first. She admitted that the family had discussed several plans for obtaining Northline shares, including false financial allegations and a staged accident. The poisoning performance seemed preferable because Caleb controlled the dose and expected to recover quickly.

Lorraine continued denying involvement until investigators recovered messages instructing guests to arrive early enough to witness “Morgan’s breakdown.” She had also searched whether attempted-murder charges allowed a spouse to control business assets before trial.

Their plan failed partly because none of them understood that an arrest would not automatically transfer my privately held shares. They built an elaborate crime around a legal assumption they never verified.
