My Ex-Husband Mocked Me For Never Becoming A Mother, Then Proudly Introduced His Twins With The Woman Who Had Betrayed Me. What He Did Not Know Was That The Clinic Records Led To His Own Cousin—and The Payments For That “Perfect Family” Led Straight Back To Company Accounts.

Part 2 of 3

Lauren might have preserved a small measure of credibility by calmly requesting a private investigation and supervised testing. Instead, panic pushed her toward a devastating confession.

“I only did it because I loved you,” she cried. “I knew how desperately you wanted children.”

Nathaniel turned toward her slowly, as though he no longer understood the words coming from her mouth.

“What exactly did you do because you loved me?” he asked.

Lauren explained that waiting for an uncertain natural pregnancy had frightened her. Nathaniel constantly talked about producing heirs, while Margaret brought up bloodlines at nearly every family gathering. Lauren became convinced that if she did not conceive quickly, Nathaniel would eventually abandon her just as he had abandoned me.

She approached Mason and offered him enough money to settle several gambling debts. Then she arranged for him to become a donor through the private clinic.

Choosing another Mercer had seemed strategically perfect. A family resemblance would reduce suspicion, and giving Nathaniel twins would secure her position beside him permanently.

“Mason and I never had a physical affair,” Lauren pleaded. “It was a clinical arrangement. I was trying to give you the family you wanted.”

“You let me believe those babies were biologically mine,” Nathaniel said, his voice breaking in front of the silent crowd.

“They are yours in every way that should matter,” Lauren replied. “You loved them before they were born.”

Both infants began crying beneath the afternoon heat and the tension surrounding them. Margaret immediately summoned a trusted nanny and ordered her to carry the babies into the house.

“These children are innocent, and they will not be displayed as evidence in an adult scandal,” Margaret announced. “Whatever testing eventually establishes, they deserve protection rather than punishment.”

I entered through the covered walkway just as the nanny disappeared inside. Recognition traveled through the crowd in widening waves of whispers.

Nathaniel’s shock immediately became hostility.

“You arranged this entire performance because the divorce was not enough to satisfy your bitterness,” he shouted.

“Your decisions arranged everything happening here,” I answered. “The documents only allowed other people to understand those decisions.”

Lauren accused me of destroying her happiness because she had replaced me. Her words brought back memories of our college friendship, when she borrowed my clothes, shared my apartment, and repeatedly called me the sister she had never had.

“If I had wanted revenge for the affair, I could have exposed both of you months ago,” I said. “I came here because Nathaniel paid for your private life with corporate funds that belonged partly to other people.”

I removed a blue audit folder from my briefcase.

Several members of the Mercer Aeronautics board recognized the accounting firm’s insignia before Nathaniel began moving toward the stage steps.

“Do not open that folder in front of these people,” he warned.

“Many of the people standing here invested in Mercer Aeronautics,” I replied. “That gives them far more right to the truth than you ever gave me.”

Part 4: The Business Financing the Perfect Family

I did not speak about the affair, our painful fertility struggles, or the humiliation Nathaniel had deliberately inflicted during our divorce. Emotional accusations would have allowed him to dismiss me as a jealous former wife.

Verified financial records left him nowhere to hide.

I described a consulting company that possessed no employees, office, registered specialists, or completed contracts. Over eighteen months, Mercer Aeronautics had transferred more than nine hundred thousand dollars into that entity. The money had then been used to cover Lauren’s living expenses.

Other payments financed jewelry, luxury travel, condominium renovations, and every bill associated with the Santa Fe fertility clinic. Nathaniel had approved the transfers using his executive credentials while recording them as strategic aerospace research.

One of the board advisers rose from his chair and confronted him.

“Did you authorize company money to pay this woman’s personal expenses and medical treatment?”

“Those payments were temporary advances tied to deferred executive compensation,” Nathaniel answered. “The classifications can be corrected without causing anyone any real damage.”

I displayed digitally authenticated authorization logs showing that he had divided the larger expenses among several subsidiaries, apparently hoping that auditors would never combine the amounts.

“Changing an accounting classification does not erase deliberate concealment,” I said. “Every transaction bears Nathaniel’s personal authorization, and the money came from restricted operating capital.”

A major investor immediately called his legal department. Two board members instructed company counsel to preserve every server and suspend Nathaniel’s access to corporate systems.

Guests who had arrived expecting a celebration began quietly leaving, unable to endure the public collapse unfolding around them.

Nathaniel came down from the stage and seized my forearm. He demanded that I stop destroying everything he had built.

I removed his hand and stepped out of his reach.

“Mercer Aeronautics was nearly insolvent when we met,” I reminded him. “You could not finance another payroll cycle. I rebuilt the projections, negotiated institutional funding, and risked my inheritance after every bank rejected you.”

“My leadership created that company,” he shouted. “Your spreadsheets only supported my vision.”

A retired investor who remembered those early years released a humorless laugh.

“Vision without financial discipline is merely an expensive fantasy,” I said. “You mistook my loyalty for an unlimited resource and treated the company like your private bank account.”

Margaret approached her son after reading several pages from the audit.

“Did corporate money pay for the treatment Lauren used to deceive you?” she asked.

Nathaniel remained silent because every possible response would condemn him differently. If he admitted knowing about Mason, he would expose his participation in the reproductive deception. If he denied knowing, he would confirm that he had misappropriated company funds without understanding what he was purchasing.

Lauren tried to defend him by insisting he had known nothing about Mason.

Margaret regarded her with open contempt.

“His ignorance about the donor does not excuse financial misconduct,” she said. “Your deception does not make him innocent.”

The reception completely dissolved within twenty minutes.

By that evening, Mercer Aeronautics had convened an emergency board meeting and suspended Nathaniel from all executive duties. Independent counsel secured his communications, corporate devices, accounting credentials, and electronic records before he could alter or destroy anything.

Within two weeks, investigators uncovered additional unauthorized transfers that had nothing to do with Lauren. Nathaniel had concealed personal debts, financed speculative investments, and diverted vendor rebates into accounts under his control.

The board permanently removed him as chief executive officer. Major investors froze all pending capital commitments, while state and federal authorities began investigating possible embezzlement, securities fraud, and deliberate falsification of corporate records.

The empire Nathaniel claimed to have built alone began collapsing beneath the weight of documents bearing his own signature.

Part 5: Children Who Had Nothing to Explain

Lauren remained with Nathaniel only until his access to luxury disappeared.

At first, she announced that the emotional trauma required her to take some temporary distance. Then she emptied the joint personal account Nathaniel had authorized her to use. A few days later, she flew to Tampa with her mother and refused to communicate directly with him, directing every conversation through attorneys.

Mason reacted differently when the Mercer family’s legal team confronted him.

He signed a formal statement admitting that Lauren had paid him to contribute genetic material and remain completely silent. A court-authorized paternity test later confirmed that he was the biological father of both babies.

Nathaniel had spent months attending prenatal appointments, preparing two nurseries, and publicly presenting himself as a devoted future father. After receiving the test results, however, he refused to enter any room where the twins were being cared for.

Margaret confronted him inside the Denver estate, where workers had only recently removed the last decorations from the disastrous reception.
