Her stepmother, Rebecca, reacted swiftly with a plan.
“You need to get back together with Dylan,” she instructed firmly. “Invite him over and…” She hesitated, uncharacteristically uncertain. “…spend the night with him. That’s the only way to keep this from becoming a scandal.”
Vanessa hesitated but ultimately agreed. Confessing the truth to her father wasn’t an option. The next day, she approached Dylan at the park, carefully crafting her words. To her relief, he agreed to reconcile.
Two weeks later, Dylan sat at Vanessa’s family dinner table. After the meal, she and Dylan dropped a life-altering revelation on her father: Vanessa was expecting a baby.
The months passed quickly, and at just 18, she found herself in a hospital bed, preparing to give birth.
Two days after welcoming their son into the world, Vanessa and Dylan were ready to bring their child home. But then, a doctor entered the room, urgently requesting a private conversation with Dylan.
Moments later, Dylan stormed back into Vanessa’s hospital room, his face contorted in fury. Their families stood around, waiting to celebrate—but the air shifted in an instant.
“YOU LIED TO ME!” Dylan roared. “THIS CHILD ISN’T MINE!”
Vanessa broke down, pleading for him to listen, but Dylan turned his back on her and walked out—out of the hospital, out of her life.
When she returned home, she begged her father for forgiveness, but Alan was furious, humiliated beyond words.
“…So I made the most painful choice of my life,” Vanessa whispered through her tears. “I held my beautiful baby one last time, kissed his tiny face, and gave him up for adoption. Then, I left town.”

“Half a year later, by pure chance, I ran into you again at an art exhibition in the new city I had moved to, Richard. You already know everything that happened after that!”
“Why didn’t you just tell me the truth?” Richard asked, his voice filled with regret. “We could have brought Simon back and raised him together.”
“I wanted to be honest with you when we reconnected,” Vanessa admitted, disappointment evident in her tone. “But by then, it was too late. He had already been adopted by a family and taken overseas.”
Richard felt overwhelmed by the weight of the situation. “And how did you manage to track us down, Simon?”
“My adoptive father told me the truth before he passed away,” Simon explained. “He left me information about my biological mother, and just two days ago, I finally met her for the first time!”
Richard let out a deep sigh before shaking his head with a small smile. “Well… I never expected that at 75, I’d be teaching my 53-year-old son his very first lesson!” He looked at Simon meaningfully. “I hope you now realize that honesty is always the best choice… and that sometimes, people deserve a second chance. That goes for your mother and me as well.”
