Fans suspect “something had happened” between Catherine and William as they looked “tense” and “gloomy” during family outing

The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen with their three children during a Sunday visit to Crathie Kirk, the small parish church near Balmoral Castle that the royal family traditionally attends while in Scotland.

William was photographed driving a Range Rover with Catherine in the passenger seat, while Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, sat in the back. The outing, part of the family’s summer break in the Highlands, appeared routine at first but quickly became the subject of public discussion once images circulated online.

Observers commented warmly on the family’s togetherness, with many noting that William and the children appeared relaxed. Attention also turned to Catherine, who has been undergoing cancer treatment this year. One comment widely shared read: “William and the kiddies look well and rested, but I think Catherine looks a little drawn, tired. You can see her body is still battling the ravages of chemo. Anyone who has walked a mile in her shoes knows the signs. You just want to lean in and give her a hug.”

Yet alongside sympathy came sharp criticism. Viewers noticed that none of the family appeared to be wearing seatbelts. “Why is no one in the automobile wearing seatbelts?!” one person asked, with others echoing concerns about the children’s safety.

The strongest rebuke invoked the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, who di.e.d in a car crash in 1997: “For someone whose mother d.ie.d in a car crash, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, I find it appalling that William isn’t either. It’s truly a gross example to set, especially when you’re being photographed and have your kids in the car. Short distance is irrelevant.”

The incident highlights how even a private family outing by senior royals can prompt intense scrutiny — balancing admiration for their resilience with pointed questions about responsibility and example.
