My husband and I were supposed to be partners when we had our first baby, but things took a dark turn. His behavior toward me became increasingly worse, and I was on the brink of leaving him. I had just given birth to a baby girl, and she’s absolutely everything to me. But here’s the problem: every time I ask my husband for help, he tells me, “I need to relax, my paternity leave is too short.” Meanwhile, our baby can barely sleep for more than an hour at a time, and he hasn’t once taken care of her on his own. I’m so exhausted that I find myself nearly falling asleep while cooking or doing laundry.

But last Saturday, things went way too far. We had a family gathering to introduce our baby to everyone. It was a wonderful day—until I literally fainted from exhaustion. She introduced the stranger as a professional nanny they had hired for the next two weeks. “She’s here to help with the baby and to teach Jake how to care for her and manage the house,” my MIL explained.
