King Charles Issues Statement Following ‘Tragic Loss Of Life’

King Charles has expressed his profound sorrow following the catastrophic monsoon flooding in Pakistan and India, which has claimed more than 330 lives. In a deeply personal message titled “A message from His Majesty The King following the monsoon flooding in Pakistan”, the monarch described the scale of suffering as “truly heart-rending,” adding that the Royal Family was “desperately saddened” by the tragedy.

In his address, the King said: “My wife and I have been desperately saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life and widespread devastation caused by the recent monsoon flooding in Pakistan, and of the horrendous helicopter crash during rescue operations. The scale of suffering is truly heart-rending, and our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.”

The message also paid tribute to the emergency services and rescue teams. King Charles praised their “unwavering commitment” and “selfless efforts,” calling them a reflection of compassion and strength in the face of overwhelming odds.

The floods have brought widespread destruction across South Asia, marking Pakistan’s seventh monsoon spell of 2025, with forecasts predicting up to ten cycles in total. On August 15, a helicopter crashed in northwestern Pakistan during relief operations, killing all five crew members, including two pilots.

Highlighting the close ties between the UK and Pakistan, the King said: “We are especially mindful of the enduring bonds between our nations, and of the many families in the United Kingdom with close ties to Pakistan. Alongside them, we send our profound heartfelt condolences to those affected and stand in solidarity with the people of Pakistan during this most difficult time.”

Concluding his statement, King Charles offered “sincere admiration” for the resilience of those battling the floods as they confront the challenges of recovery and rebuilding, assuring them that they remain firmly in the thoughts and prayers of the Royal Family.
