Clara carefully touched the edge of her bed.

“Can we stay here forever?”

I kissed the top of her head.

“As long as you want.”

The following morning, security called from the entrance.

Everett and Beverly were waiting outside.

I allowed them to enter.

The moment they stepped into the living room, they froze.

Everett slowly looked around.

“How can you afford this?”

I placed several documents on the table.

Everett stared at them in disbelief.

“Westbridge Development Group?”

“Yes,” I answered.

“You own it?”

“I do.”

Beverly sat down heavily.

“You hid all of this from us?”

I looked directly at her.

“No. You simply never cared enough to see who I really was.”

Everett lowered his head.

“Camille, I made mistakes.”

I shook my head.

“No. You made choices.”

Then I handed him another folder.

Inside were divorce papers.

His hands trembled.

“Please don’t do this.”

I remained calm.

“You never lost me in a single moment. You lost me one choice at a time.”

Beverly began crying.

“Please let me see the girls.”

I stood and walked toward the door.

“The day you taught them they mattered less than everyone else was the day you lost that privilege.”

A few minutes later, security escorted them away.

I never opened the gate again.

A New Beginning

The legal process moved quickly.

Because my assets had always remained protected, Everett could not claim ownership of my properties or businesses.

My daughters remained with me.

Months passed.

Clara became more confident.

Violet smiled more often.

The fear that had once followed them everywhere slowly disappeared.

One evening, we sat together beneath the golden light of the setting sun.

Clara laughed while running across the lawn.

Violet wrapped her arms around me.

“Mom, when I grow up, I want to be just like you.”

I smiled and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.

“No, sweetheart. I want you to become someone even stronger.”

At that moment, I finally understood something important.
