Prince Harry Takes a Swipe at Royal Family, Vows He and Meghan Would Live Their Lives ‘By Truth’

Prince Harry recently shared his thoughts on moving from a life of royal duty to discovering his true purpose during a discussion at the NEXUS Global Summit on June 27.

Speaking before an audience of around 350 aspiring philanthropists and investors, the Duke of Sussex touched on themes of truth, legacy, and leadership. Yet, woven into his remarks were pointed comments that seemed aimed at the royal family, from whom he remains estranged after his explosive revelations in recent years.

Living by Truth

Harry emphasized that both he and Meghan Markle are determined to live their lives guided by honesty and moral clarity. Quoting Meghan, he said, “My wife said to me very early on in our relationship: ‘If you live your life by truth, it’s the most efficient way to live.’ We will continue to live our lives by truth, and we will continue to stand up for what we believe in — the difference between right and wrong.”

His words appeared to contrast the couple’s values with those of the royal family, indirectly referencing their 2020 decision to step away from royal duties. For Harry, the move has long been framed as a moral stand against unfair treatment and systemic issues within the institution.

Calls for Change and Compassionate Leadership

The Duke further urged attendees to “take care of each other and our children in the future” and to “tackle the systems instead of the symptoms keeping us down.” Many interpreted this as another veiled reference to the structures of the monarchy.

Highlighting the mission of the Archewell Foundation, which he and Meghan launched in 2020, Harry stressed its principles of “compassionate leadership” and commitment to “something greater than ourselves.” He encouraged philanthropists to align their investments with long-term impact and to use their platforms for meaningful change.

Addressing Online Harassment

Harry also revisited the challenges Meghan faced with online abuse, saying, “One of the reasons why the digital world was so important to us is because my wife, in 2018, was the most trolled person in the world. There was a lived experience, but at no point did we suddenly think, ‘OK, well, let’s take this industry on.’”

CNN previously reported that Meghan herself claimed in a 2020 podcast that she had been the most trolled individual in 2019, describing the experience as “unsurvivable.” Their shared experiences fueled the couple’s advocacy against digital harm and cyberbullying.

Meghan’s Echo of “Truth”

Harry’s remarks about living “by truth” were echoed by Meghan Markle in her own recent appearance on the Aspire With Emma Grede podcast on June 17. When asked what she would change about her public narrative, Meghan replied, “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.” She added, “My dear friend Serena, she told me years ago: ‘A lie can’t live forever.’ Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”

Her words, like Harry’s, appeared to reference their years within the royal family and underscored their ongoing stance of defining their lives by honesty and resilience.
