Prince William and Kate Middleton usually keep their relationship private. Recently though, the couple have been showing a softer and more openly affectionate side. Fans have seen everything from a warm Valentines Day message to the two holding hands during their visit to Wales. They even have a glamorous date night lined up for the Royal Variety Performance.

Many have asked why this shift has happened. The answer appears to be linked to the Princess of Waless return to public life after her cancer treatment in 2024. With her recovery announced in January and her return to royal duties, the couple seem to be stepping into a new chapter together.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told People Magazine that the pair now feel comfortable letting the public see more of their closeness. She explained that they are in a different phase of life and that William is deeply proud of Kate for overcoming such a difficult period and carrying on. Royal historian Amanda Foreman added that their unity offers a sense of stability at a time when the wider world feels unsettled. She said that both have risen to the moment with a strong sense of partnership.

While the couple present a united front, each has also pursued their own commitments. William recently attended an Aston Villa match, and Kate continued her tradition of giving St Patricks Day shamrocks to the Irish Guards, something she was unable to do last year. Royal biographer Robert Hardman believes these individual moments give them a sense of resetting and balancing their roles.
