Approaching the dog, she handed him the treats, but when he turned to walk away once more, she decided to follow him.

They eventually reached a busy street, where she observed the dog heading toward a storm drain. He sat down by it, dropped one of the treats inside, and then ate his own.

Annie, puzzled by this behavior, noticed that over the next few days, the dog kept dropping food into the drain before eating himself. Her curiosity grew, and she decided to investigate further.

Cautiously, she approached the drain, with the dog keeping a close eye on her. When she looked inside, she gasped. Without hesitation, she called the fire department for assistance.

Firefighters soon arrived and began working on the storm drain. By this time, a crowd had gathered to watch the unfolding scene.

After a few tense moments, one of the firefighters emerged holding a tiny kitten. The crowd was stunned.

The firefighter went back into the drain four more times, each time returning with another kitten. Annie was astonished—she had no idea that five tiny kittens were trapped inside.

The stray dog wiggled out of Annie’s arms and ran over to the firefighters, wagging his tail and sniffing the kittens.

Curious, Annie asked how such young kittens could have ended up in that situation. A firefighter explained, “They were likely swept into the drain during heavy rain.”

Thankfully, the kittens were not starving, likely due to the dog’s daily efforts to share his food with them.

Moved by his kindness, Annie chose to take the kittens home to care for them until they could be adopted.

The firefighters agreed and handed the kittens over to her. Before leaving, she called out to the dog, whom she decided to name Benny, inviting him to come home with her. Benny eagerly followed.

Annie eventually found loving homes for four of the kittens, deciding to keep one for herself. Benny also found his forever home, as Annie couldn’t bear to see him return to the streets after his heroic actions for the kittens.

The little family thrived together, with Fudge the cat and Benny no longer having to worry about life on the streets, knowing they were loved just as much as they loved Annie.
